The water pump (Fin: Vesipumppu) is a car part which can be found inside the garage at home. It is attached to the timing cover with 5x7mm bolts.

Broken water pump[]

The water pump will eventually break. This can be noted by the squealing sound of an improperly adjusted alternator belt as the pump jams and stops spinning, causing the alternator belt to slip over the pulley, which will accelerate the belts wear and could lead to it breaking. If the squealing sound stops randomly, the alternator light will also light up. You may also notice that your engine starts heating up a lot more.

Note that the water pump and alternator usually wear out in sync, so when the alternator light comes, you should replace the water pump as well.

Emergency "fix"[]

If you are far from home, stop the car (but keep the engine running), loosen the alternator, and remove the belt. This will stop the dreadful squealing and the wear on the belt will be lessened. However, this will also stop the alternator from working, so your car will purely run on the battery. You will not have much time before the car stops working (because the spark plugs will stop getting electricity when the battery dies), so turn off all electrical accessories (wipers, lights, radio...) and do not turn off the car (the starter will drain the battery when you'll be starting the car again). Drive the car carefully at low RPM, and you may get to your destination.

You can also reinstall the belt if you NEED to use electrical accessories.

Fixing the water pump[]

It can be fixed by Fleetari, or completely replaced by buying either a new one from the shelf at Fleetari Repair Shop, or a used one from the used car parts dealer during the rally. It is best to buy new because it can be replaced fast, quickly and won't break soon.
